Love has many 'faces'

Ii have been reflecting on the word 'love'

The english word 'love' with its' plethora of meanings illustrates just how weak the spoken and written word is. In english we say ..."i love my dog" ... and ... "i love my wife" the same word 'love' is used with much different meaning.

Love has many 'faces'(I am not speaking of people here ... I am speaking 'philosophically') I know many of the 'faces' of love ... and I have no more interest in the 'faces' Ii know ... I have a very strong interest in the 'faces' of love I do not yet know ... and I am confident there are many ... and I will recognize a new 'face' of love when I meet it.

I read again this morning an expression that I believe I have read somewhere in the past ...."Laugh and people will laugh with you ... cry ... and people will laugh at you"

I know this expression is not always true ... yet ... seems to me even one instance is one too many.

Why is the 'face' of love known as 'agape love' so rare today??

Back again! ... was away for 10 minutes or so ....

Maybe I received an answer to my question ... here is what I 'heard'

In english we say:
  • I love my dog
  • I love my wife
  • I love my job
  • I love chocolate
  • etc etc etc
What do all of these expressions have in common? Seems to me they all veil the hidden 'face of love' ... the face of love that means ... there is something in it for me ... if one seriously reflects on each of the above expressions ... it is easy to see the commonality of the 'me ... me ... me' !!!

Agape love on the other hand is intended to convey the 'face of love' ... there is nothing in it for me ... and I love anyway ... no wonder it is so rare in todays 'me' cultures!
